Motors & Drives
Frontline offers a full range of Toshiba low and medium voltage motors and adjustable speed drives. These products, hallmarked for quality, performance, and durability, can be customized to meet the most demanding applications.
THE ADVANTAGES OF TOSHIBA MOTORS
Oversized Bearings
80% of motor failures are bearing related. For this reason, Toshiba puts over-sized, 300 series bearings on both the DE and NDE of all motors. This is why Toshiba bearings last up to 10x longer than the competition.
Low Vibration
NEMA requires motors to achieve .16 in/sec vibration levels. Toshiba motors achieve at MOST .08 in/sec vibration – or half NEMA levels. Low vibration preserves the mechanical integrity of the motor and bearings, leading to increased life time.
Heavy Duty Frame
Toshiba motors incorporate a robust design to increase stability and eliminate many common mechanical failures. Increased ribbing in the end bells, maximum surface area at connection points, and deep bearing pockets produce a sturdy, reliable product.
100% Quality Test
Toshiba performs a routine quality test on every single motor it manufacturers. Many manufacturers perform ‘batch testing’, where only a fraction of motors are tested. With every motor going through rigorous quality checks, Toshiba ensures that every motor sold will perform at the highest levels.
Wide Thermal Gap
Toshiba windings contain Class H insulation materials, giving the motors increased thermal protection. At the same time, Toshiba motors operate with a very low temperature rise, giving them a wide thermal margin. For every 10 degrees the motor runs below insulation rating, the lifetime of the insulation doubles.
Optimized for VFD use
When a motor is run on a vfd, it’s windings need to absorb sharp spikes of voltage coming from the vfd inverter. These spikes cause winding failures for under-protected motors. NEMA requires vfd-rated motor to absorb 1600V of these spikes. Toshiba designs its motors to absorb 2000V spikes, protecting them against vfd harm when other motors would burn up.
C5 rated interlamination
Toshiba uses C5 rated thermal materials in its stator and rotor laminations. Most motors use an inferior C3 material. This gives Toshiba motors increased thermal efficiencies, and excellent rewindability characteristics.
Package deals
In addition to manufacturing high quality motors, Toshiba manufactures high quality variable frequency drives. If bought as a motor/drive package, the vfd warranty is raised to meet the standard motor warranty of 3 years. Toshiba motors can operate 20:1 CT, and 60:1 VT.
High torque output
Toshiba motors achieve more torque than is required to meet NEMA Design B levels. Because of this, Toshiba motors will not stall under even the harshest of applications. They also will not be effected by adverse electrical circumstances, such as voltage sags, which will reduce the motor’s torque output.
Cast Iron Construction
Toshiba uses a robust cast iron construction for its motors. Cast iron has excellent thermal properties for efficient, is resistant to rust and other contaminants, is durable, and can be precision machined for exact tolerances. Compared to lighter, less efficient, less protected, flimsier rolled steel frames, cast iron motors are superior.
